Suspension
The best place to put money is in your suspension. Improving the suspension in the front forks and the rear shocks will give a significant different in terms of bike handling. It simply makes you handle your bike better.
The performance improvement is logical because most bikes from the factory come with the suspension components setting up for a rider who probably weighs around 160 pounds. If you weigh more or less, the suspension isn’t tuned for you.
A new rear shock or shocks will significantly improve your ride. It is even better because a new shock has a lot of adjustments, which means that you can fine-tune them to match your need.
Get help from your local technician if you are not familiar with adjusting your suspension.
Brakes
Although speed is important, brake is vital too. You need to have enough brake power to stop your speeding bike. Sometimes, stopping a bike is not enough. You need to make sure your bike stop on time, in other words stopping time.
The shorter the better and the safer you are. Most of the time, accident occurs due to lack of stopping power.
Brake upgrades include changing the brake pads or even replacing all the brake components.
The deciding factors are how much stopping power you want and how much you are willing to spend.
Furthermore, you can change the diameter of the discs. Increasing diameter will give your pad more area to grip on. You can add braided steel brake lines if you have rubber ones on your bike. You can also upgrade your brake calipers. (Four should be enough but you can get more)
Well, if you want to save all the trouble upgrading each and every components of the brake, you can buy a complete brake system made for your bike by your manufacturer. It is cheaper than customizing your own brake.
