Two motorcycles models were introduced by Honda in 1983 that were to have a big impact on the motorcycling community. One was the Honda Shadow 750 and the other the Honda VF750F Interceptor. They were very different in design but both models extended motorcycle engineering enormously.

With an innovative V twin engine Honda’s engineers produced an engine for the Shadow with two cylinders arranged in a V configuration that considerably reduced vibrations. In previous V twin engines with the angle between the cylinders not at 90 degrees imbalance causes vibration and added weight, complexity and cost is caused by the counterbalances needed to damp these down. Honda overcame this problem by using an offset dual pin crankshaft which achieved a perfectly balanced V twin engine with a narrow angle, the first of its kind. Honda later used this design in the VT500C and the VT500 Ascot.

The Shadow also had other design innovations including a one way Sprague clutch, designed to stop wheel chatter which was also a problem with previous V twin engines. Three valve cylinder heads and twin plugs, still used by Honda in Shadows produced today, were also introduced with this model of Shadow. Three valves improved fuel flow and reduced emissions are a result of twin plugs. These innovations increased mileage and liquid cooling stabilised the temperature for lower emissions and better performance.

These innovations substantially increased performance giving the Shadow a performance equal to that of motorcycles with at least 50% more displacement.

Honda didn’t stop there however. Other features included hydraulic valve adjusters, electronic ignition, hydraulic clutch and front brake and other features designed for easy maintenance and improved performance. needing only regular oil changes and spark plugs replaced on a regular basis it was one of the easiest motorcycles to maintain in its day.

innovative and forward thinking design is great but looks are equally important! General opinion is that the Shadow’s looks were also a huge leap forward. During the 1950’s and 1960’s classic American cruiser styles had become increasingly popular and these designs were incorporated into the Shadow from the drawing board rather than slapped on as an extra as other motorcycle manufacturers were doing. This gave a completely integrated style to this cruiser. Design considerations that made the Shadow stand out from the crown include cast wheels, angled muffler, twin seats, backrest and a stylish front end.

The VT500C, introduced in 1983 was available in Black or Candy Wineberry Red. Both the rear fenders and fuel tank were painted, the engine covers were black and the side covers chrome. From 1983 to 1986 a Red and Black Honda Shadow decal with a gold outline was on the side cover. The headlight was rectangular and chrome and there was a single horn.

By 1985 colours available were Candy Glory Red or Black and the headlight was now round. it also had dual horns and a twin seat with an integrated backrest. In this year the engine covers were chrome and the fins were enlarged.

One of the most popular lines ever produced placed Honda at the front of the cruiser movement. Today the Honda Shadow is as popular as it was when it was introduced more than two decades ago.

Author: InsureMyRide

There is something just so utterly intoxicating about the way Honda’s Super Blackbird blends such enormous raw power with such velvety-smooth refinement.

By rights, 152 claimed horses – which still equates with over 130bhp at the rear wheel – should make the 223kg Blackbird a big handful, yet somehow Honda’s wizards have managed to break those horses, and train them to perform a synchronized ballet that would be the envy of Spain’s famed dancing stallions…

Then there’s the fact that some 10 years after its introduction, the Blackbird is still on the pace despite receiving very little in the way of modifications or upgrades.

Released late in 1996, the CBR1100XX went from carburettors to electronic fuel injection in 1999, and then received a catalytic converter and updated headlights, instruments and screen in 2001 – throw in the odd change in colour scheme here and there, and the Blackbird has really undergone very little in the way of tinkering.

And really, why would it? Pointing the bike down Victoria’s Great Ocean Road recently, it showed it can still hold its head high, with a formula that really hasn’t dated since its inception.

The Blackbird’s turbine-like four-cylinder engine develops big torque and big power, with crisp fuel injection that places both at your beck and call. There are no flat spots to speak of, in fact there’s nothing but bulk oomph pretty much throughout its entire rev range, from just off idle to its indicated 10,750rpm redline.

On the road this translates to a pure delight, although it’s perhaps not as involving as other less-powerful machines, as even on a road with quite a variation of turns you can simply pick a gear and stick with it.

The Blackbird was the world’s fastest production bike when it first hit the streets, a mantle it retained for over two years until Suzuki introduced the GSX1300R Hayabusa in May of 1999.

While it’s not quite as strong as the ‘Bus or Kawasaki’s ZX-14 or even ZX-12R, there’s still plenty here to keep you entertained, and you’ll need to watch that right wrist like a hawk if you want any chance of retaining your license…

Stopping is a particularly important issue on a bike like this, and the twin-disc, three-piston Nissins are right on the money. Honda’s Dual Combined Brake System (DCBS) is employed, which won’t please everyone but will be appreciated by others. If you’re not looking to break lap records at Phillip Island, it shouldn’t be an issue – and if you are you should really be looking for something lighter anyway, like a Fireblade.

The suspension, though relatively low-tech, does a beautiful job, but tends towards the plusher end of the spectrum, at least in terms of sportier hardware.

The ‘Bird’s on the money in the comfort stakes too, with a firm but supportive seat, a good screen and slippery bodywork to allow you to scythe through the air. Those on the tall side may find legroom a bit wanting, but there’s still enough there to ensure multi-day tours will still be on the agenda, aided further by the ‘Bird’s optional factory panniers ($1750). So what exactly is the Blackbird’s focus? At 223kg (dry) it’s too heavy to be a pure sportsbike, yet it’s too fast and has too sporty a ride position to be a true tourer.

Really, it’s a power-packed all-rounder and a hyper-tourer on the open road – provided you can find roads on which you can actually explore its potential (try Germany).

But even at legal speeds, that engine will always see you coming back for more. Happy birthday Blackbird – may your reign in the Honda stable continue for many years more.

In the competitive world of
racing motorcycles, most companies tend to bank on their racing teams to promote their street bikes. Heavy duty
motorcycles with obscene amounts of power inside the chassis run across the tracks, and
motorcycle racing fans find that they can own a little piece of the excitement by buying themselves civilian versions of the racers that their favorite bikers are running.

More often than not, this marketing approach has led most
motorcycle manufacturing companies to come up with barely street legal specs for their civilian bikes, and the results are machines that are grossly expensive, difficult to maintain, and wind up causing accidents in the hands of bikers who don’t possess the necessary skill level to handle such high performance bikes.

Honda has taken a different approach from it’s competitors in this department, and has instead taken a people-friendly focus in their motorcycles. Their teams still continue to run – and win a lot – in motor sports events, but their civilian bikes aren’t simply powered-down versions of their racers. They customize their civilian bike designs with the average person in mind.

One of the things that shows this approach is the price of a
Honda motorcycle. Their price ranges both for the bikes and parts are considerably more affordable for people who just might want to ride a fast bike for fun without the need to cleave along the highway like a bullet.

Their parts are also much easier to find than most of their competitors, especially their european counterparts, and likewise are much cheaper while maintaining a high standard of quality. To add to the customer oriented approach, these same parts are also easier to install, replace, and yes, modify for those who want to push the specs of their crotch rockets a little higher. Honda service center personnel are highly trained under rigid standards to ensure they do their jobs on the bikes right.

Lastly, Honda also offers comprehensive packages as an added bonus, like extended warranties, insurance, and prepaid maintenance plans for their customers to make sure that they get the best deal available for their money. For Honda, service doesn’t end right after the sale is made.

So, while
Honda racing bikes perform on a par with their competition on the professional race tracks, their civilian bikes are made for the people who just want to ride for fun without the headaches involved with owning something just one step below formula specs.

The holiday season is full of family, friends and the age-old question of how to find the perfect gift. When it comes to the Honda motorcycle enthusiast in your life, there is a wide array of apparel, accessories and gear available, spanning many price ranges and varied in style. Use this guide to help you consider the many types of Honda motorcycle accessories available for your favorite biker this holiday season.

1. What’s your price range?

No matter how much you’re looking to spend on your gift, there’s a motorcycle accessory that fits your budget. With gloves in the $20 range, and jackets and riding pants worth hundreds of dollars, you can find an appropriately priced gift for your biker.

2. Sport bike or touring bike?

It’s important to determine if your gift recipient prefers sport biking or touring biking. If you’re not sure, some lightweight jackets and gloves are suitable for either, but you can find an individual-specific gift that fits their biking preference. Items such as padded textile safety jackets are best for sport biking and mesh jackets are great for casual touring.

3. Safety, Style, or Both?

Some products are designed with safety in mind and others are designed to show off the rider’s stylish flair. Like the previous question, there are products that are both safety and style friendly. If you want to focus on safety, a textile touring pant or helmet would both be great items. For a more style-centered approach, look into colorful riding jackets or logo-ed items. What could be a better gift than the gift of safety and comfort?

4. Where to buy?

As you go to purchase your Honda motorcycle accessories, it’s important to find a dealer you can trust. It’s always a good idea to find an online store that has live customer assistance available by phone and a wide selection of products. Look for motorcycle dealerships that also offer riding accessories if you want a staff that can help you find the ideal gift.

As you consider all these factors, remember that giving a personality-specific gift is always very meaningful and special. This holiday season and beyond—to birthdays or just “thinking of you” treats—a riding accessory is always a welcomed gift for the Honda enthusiast!

For all riders, it’s an important matter that their Honda CBR Performance needs are taken care of and its every whim and fancy, catered to. Pamper your bikes with guaranteed spare parts and essentials, because genuine parts and accessories are a Honda Motorcycle’s needs and that’s how your riding experience will breed consistency and dependability that’s unmatched. Maintain your bikes performance levels by caring for it in a regular pattern. Make sure your meters, lights, gears and breaks are checked into from time to time to find any flaws that you miss.

The Honda Motorcycle Company flashed the headlines back in 1987 with the release of the Honda CBR 600. Ever since, Honda has maintained its reputation as a leading bike selling company all over the world. The reason their success is mostly unmatched is because they have studied the market well and yearn to provide a bike for every varying temperament. As such whether you’re a speed freak or are looking at something stylish, you’ll find just the Honda you’re looking for. With so many bikes in the market, there’s somewhere you need to turn to for your Honda needs, then make sure they’re authentic parts. Get the right Fender Eliminator Kits, Honda Fairing Kits, Honda CBR Headlights and/or Frame Sliders.

Your search for Honda CBR Performance Parts such as Air Filters, Honda CBR Billet Fluid Caps, Honda CBR Carbon Fiber Parts, and/or Honda CBR Exhaust Systems needs to be taken seriously. This is important for your on road journeys to be true experiences. You certainly don’t want your Honda to go kaput midway.

Equip yourself with valuable information and data regarding the Honda. If it comes to buying a new vehicle, selling it or modifications, if you have questions, make sure you get the right answers. This ensures that you can maintain and look after your bike well apart from ensuring that you only put the right accessories on it. For the true biker, knowing the true factors, interesting tidbits and history about your favorite motorcycle is almost a thumb rule.

Your need for Honda CBR Fuel Pump, Honda CBR Racing Levers, Honda CBR Rims, Honda CBR Tail Lights, Honda CBR Turn Signals, Swing Arm Sliders and/or Windscreens should never end at ambiguous stores or traders as it will affect the quality of your bikes performance in time. As a true biker you’re always striving to keep the bikers dream alive. If you’re one for the road, then there’s nothing that can stop you and most certainly not flawed bike parts.

Be attentive towards your bikes maintenance. This will ensure that your bike can travel farther and your mileage is economic. Don’t over burden your bike just because it’s a strong mean machine. Take care of all oiling and fuel needs apart from paying heed to the fact that there will be wear and tear along the way. Fix your bikes minor problems as they arise rather than wait for it to be a rundown mess. The roads always beckoning and you’re so ready to take off, so what are you waiting for. Always listen to your bike roaring, you’ll know if everything alright or not.

A motorcycle is a means to an end when it comes to getting from Point A to Point B. But, for many, a motorcycle is a statement, an extension of who they are and what they do. These people, and many others for that matter, want their bikes to be different from any other in the pack.

Honda motorcycle accessories range from those meant to boost up the bike’s sound quality to those designed to make touring easier. The choices are many and when used in the right combination, they can help ensure your bike doesn’t look like any other on the road or they can make long-distance travel easier by adding extra storage and creature comforts.

Honda owners looking to find accessories for their choppers will find they come in these basic categories:

* Visual enhancements. Ranging from chrome to gold plated accessories, these are meant to give a bike a different look. They include such things as chrome sidestands to saddlebag scuff covers. There are even specialized exhaust tips for Hondas, front fender emblem replacements that are snazzier than stock and more. Tweaking a Honda can be pretty easy thanks to the options out there meant to fit a number of this bike maker’s machines. Each Honda model typically has its own line of accessories, too, custom fit to the machine.
* Sound enhancements. It’s hard to think of a motorcycle needing a CD player or more, but for many they do. For motorcycles, however, these audio add ons are specialized and are meant to be protected from the elements in special compartments. When parked, these accessories can really help a bike rider turn up the jams. The options here include such things as a CB radio kit, CD changer, a passenger audio control so they can listen while you drive and more. There are even full-face headsets.
* Safety add ons. These can include such things as fog lights, new windshields, deflectors and more. These add ons are meant to improve the safety and visibility features on a cycle, which is always a good thing for the driver and his or her passenger.
* Touring add ons. Those who love to hit the open road tend to love to do so while camping out as well. Saddlebags and trunk enhancements can add on to the storage capacity and make stowing all necessary gear easier on you and your bike.

When it comes to Hondas owners will find almost no matter what model they have there are accessories to make that model stand out as different. When it comes to looks, owners can customize everything from the exhaust pipes and emblems to the running boards and more. Entertainment options, too, can be increased to include such things as CD changers, CB radios and more. Safety add ons are perhaps the most important of the custom options available. From more protective windshields to extra lights and more, safety equipment that’s customized to be comfortable for the rider is vital.

Author: John Hanks

Nothing could ruin your day more when you’re driving in the countryside and then in the middle of nowhere, your Honda CBR motorcycle breaks down. All that because you never checked anything before you went out thinking, “I’ve checked that yesterday so there shouldn’t be any problem.”

It’s important to check your motorcycle before you go for a ride. Maybe it would be too much for you to do it everyday but you have to do it at least before you go out especially for a very long ride. This ride can’t just be hauled and you’ll be spending hundreds of dollars because you missed one thing that led to another problem. So here are some of the things that you should check before going out, full throttle.

Tires – the most important of them all. Check the tires of your Honda motorcycle and make sure they are inflated properly. Under-inflated tires will take in heat faster than regular tires. With too much heat, the tire will blow up unexpectedly, and you’ll be lucky if you don’t have an accident because of blown tires. To make sure you have the digits correct, purchase a portable gauge to know the psi of your tires.

Brakes – most of the accidents come from the fact that brakes don’t work. So before you go out and take the long ride, check your brakes. Make sure the break fluid in your motorcycle is enough. It’s even better if it’s. Check the front and back break fluids of your motorcycle. Check the break pads when you’re at it. Thin break pads should be changed immediately. You don’t want to realize that you don’t have any break when you are already on the road and more than 60mph on your motorcycle.

Chains – It will not really cause major accidents but it will cripple your motorcycle to a halt. Before you go out and do a major road trip on your motorcycle, lubricate them before you even go out. You really don’t need to do it everyday but at least do it every time you visit the gas station. This will ensure your chains will complement your rear tires and will not contrast to it. The last thing that you need in your motorcycle is a busted chain especially on a road trip since chains maybe the last thing you’ll think will break.

Fuel and Oil – probably the most important for a smooth ride. You Honda CBR 600 will naturally stop if you don’t have enough gas. For long rides, oil should be checked especially the oils in your break fluids.

Battery – You’ll know you need one when you can’t start anything electronically. Every light and signal that you’ll need for your trip should be there. If it needs refill, do not use tap water. There’s specific water for batteries and they are deionized water. Distilled water could also be an option.

These are the things that you should check before you go out even for a short ride. This will also ensure that your motorcycle will also last longer.

When it comes to maintaining the performance, quality and safety of your Honda motorcycle, sometimes you’ll need to buy Honda motorcycle parts from a third-party dealer. A simple internet search can show you how easy it is to find a dealer of these parts, but some common sense can help you choose which one to buy your parts from.

As you choose a Honda parts dealer, ask these questions of the websites and dealerships you come across in your search.

1. Does this dealer also sell Honda motorcycles?
Before you begin shopping, learn whether or not the dealer has any experience handling whole bikes. A source that sell whole bikes in addition to motorcycle parts is more likely to understand the importance of each part to the performance of the motorcycle. Also, established motorcycle dealerships are often safer to shop with than a possibly-fraudulent online storefront and will more consistently be available to help you troubleshoot and install your parts or answer any questions you have.

2. Can I call the dealer for help with my order?
One of the best ways to avoid buying from fraudulent or uninformed online dealer is to check the site for a telephone number. As a customer and bike owner, your Honda motorcycle parts should be purchased from an online store that you can interact with, ask questions of and be sure is safe. Check for a phone number and give it a call with any questions you may have about the part you’re buying.

3. Does this site offer bike-specific parts?
A really handy tool for any motorcycle enthusiast looking to buy parts is a customizable store. Look for an online store that you can customize to fit your bike. For example, if you have a Honda ST1300, the site should be able to help you easily find Honda motorcycle parts for ST1300 bikes. If you can’t quickly and easily find the part you’re looking for or determine if it’s the correct model, chances are, it is difficult to know if you will be getting the part you really need.

4. Will I be able to buy a wide variety of parts and accessories from this dealer?
Before you settle on a Honda motorcycle parts dealer, it’s worth quickly browsing through their selection of other parts and accessories. If you enjoy shopping with the dealer, you will want to know what else they offer in the future. If their inventory includes a large selection of products, it will be more convenient to order parts in the future using an already established account or combine orders for better shipping prices.

Considering these four factors in choosing a Honda motorcycle parts dealer can help you have a safe, satisfying online shopping experience.
